Coping in Copenhagen
Just wrapped up one and half days in Copenhagen, we arrived on Friday noon from London took the Metro into Copenhagen and found our hotel close to the Central train station. Temperature of about +5 and sunny definitely no Mexico weather. Lots to see in here with the first day walking around the city centre many of the old buildings are still standing and we’re not destroyed during WW2. With it being an off season for the tourist many of the sites are closed for renovations or don’t open until warmer spring weather in March and April. That didn’t stop us from walking all around and get a bit of a game plan for a full day on Saturday. Lots and lots of restaurants and bars in this city so we snacked on famous Danish French fries and finished up with some wine and a pastry. Most definitely the most expensive place we’ve been to for lunch today we had a lobster bisque and a hot chocolate with Baileys and is was almost $60.00 Canadian. I suggest that Karen start picking bottles to help supplement our meal plan. The minimum wage here is almost $22 per hour.
Today we took a canal cruise through the harbour and some of the canals of Copenhagen, everything is very clean and lots of new construction everything is very Carbon conscious with a goal of being carbon neutral by 2025. About 40,000 people commute to work on a bike everyday with most others taking transit. There is not very much traffic congestion and everyone seems very chilled about life here.
After the river tour we went on a hop on hop off bus tour around the city and toured through the Rongstad castle past home of the past danish kings and queens, it’s sort of a motel 6 version of the other castles we saw on our last trip to Central Europe last fall. The only exception was the gold and jewels of the royal family were amazing and held under tight security.
Again with being here in the off season most museums, and historical site were closed early and we definitely didn’t get to see all of all we wanted to see.
Rongstad Castle
Tomorrow we take the train from Copenhagen to Herning to hang out with Gordie for the next week it should be fun!
